Riyadh: An attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has killed 12 people and injured 309 others, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.

The attack took place on Saturday, October 10, amid growing hostilities involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement. Several of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at hospitals, authorities said.

Those killed included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and citizens of the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The attack also caused damage at the airport, and authorities are assessing the extent of the destruction. Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the incident, disrupting air travel in the Saudi capital.

The Saudi-led military coalition blamed Yemen’s Houthi movement for the attack and vowed to respond. The Houthis have been involved in an escalating conflict with Saudi Arabia and forces supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

The incident follows other attacks on the airport earlier in the week, raising concerns about the safety of civilian aviation and the wider impact of the conflict across the region.

US President Donald Trump said Washington was considering whether to join Saudi military operations against the Houthis. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also condemned the attacks, calling for them to stop.
