Our reporting is guided by the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability while respecting Maldivian laws and Islamic values.

This Code of Ethics serves as the guiding framework for all R24 operations, editorial decisions, and interactions with audiences.

  • All news, articles, and reports are rigorously fact-checked before publication.
  • Multiple reliable sources are consulted to ensure accuracy.
  • Corrections are issued transparently and promptly if errors occur.
  • Balanced reporting ensures all relevant perspectives are represented fairly.

Example: Political coverage includes statements from all parties, without bias or favoritism.

  1. Independence and Integrity
  • Editorial decisions are made independently of political, commercial, or external influence.
  • Conflicts of interest are avoided or disclosed openly.
  • Ethical principles guide all journalistic work.

Example: Sponsored events or partnerships do not influence news content; they are clearly labeled as advertising or promotional material.

  1. Accountability and Transparency
  • R24 takes responsibility for the social impact of its reporting.
  • Errors or inaccuracies are addressed publicly and promptly.
  • Audience feedback is actively encouraged and addressed in a timely manner.

Example: Readers can submit corrections or queries via the website or social media, which are responded to transparently.

  1. Respect for Privacy and Sensitivity
  • Individuals’ privacy and dignity are respected in all reporting.
  • Traumatic events are covered with sensitivity, avoiding graphic or unnecessary content.
  • Reporting minimizes harm while providing necessary public information.

Example: Victims of crime, especially minors, are not identified without consent.

  • R24 values representation of diverse communities and voices.
  • Stereotyping, discrimination, or bias in reporting is strictly avoided.

  • R24 fully complies with the Maldives’ Constitution (Qanoon Asaasi) and all national laws.
  • Media regulations and online content requirements are strictly observed.
  • Legal consultation is sought when reporting on sensitive matters.

  • Identities of sources and whistleblowers are strictly protected.
  • Legal or political pressures do not compromise confidentiality.
  • Supporting public-interest disclosures is a priority.
