Maldives Condemns Deadly Houthi Attack on Riyadh Airport

The Maldives has strongly condemned an attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport that killed 12 people and injured 309 others, expressing solidarity with the Saudi government and people.

Male’: The Maldives has strongly condemned a deadly attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which killed 12 people and injured 309 others.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said attacks targeting civilians and important public facilities violate international law and pose a serious threat to regional peace and security.

The attack took place on Saturday, October 10. According to Saudi authorities, the victims included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis and nationals from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Sudan. Some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Maldives expresses support for Saudi Arabia

The Maldivian government extended its condolences to the Saudi government and people, especially the families of those killed. It also wished a speedy recovery to everyone injured in the attack.

The statement stressed that the attack threatened not only Saudi Arabia’s security but also peace and stability across the wider region.

The Maldives reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect its sovereignty, security and the safety of its citizens and residents.

Airport operations disrupted

The attack caused damage to airport facilities, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend operations while safety checks were carried out.

Saudi authorities said the damage was still being assessed, while the injured were receiving treatment at hospitals.

The attack was the third reported strike on King Khalid International Airport within a week, amid rising tensions linked to the conflict involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia.
