MALÉ, Maldives: The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a White Alert for the entire country, warning of possible tidal flooding due to high wave swells.
The alert is in effect from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM today. The MET Office said there is a high chance of swell surges during high tide and urged the public to remain cautious.
According to the weather forecast, winds in the southern atolls will blow from the southeast and south at speeds of 3 to 13 mph. In other parts of the country, winds will be from the southwest and west at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 30 mph during squalls.
The sea is expected to remain moderate but could become
rough during squalls. Wave heights are forecast to range between 2 and 5 feet.
The MET Office warned that some islands may experience tidal flooding during high tide due to large wave swells.
Authorities have advised the public, especially those living in low-lying coastal areas, to take necessary precautions and protect their property until weather conditions improve.
