Meeting between Bangladesh foreign minister and Maldives foreign minister --

The Maldives and Bangladesh have held official bilateral discussions regarding the establishment of a direct sea shipping link aimed at boosting trade, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity between both nations, according to Bangladeshi news outlet Daily Sun.

The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting in Malé between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, the proposed direct maritime route is expected to significantly ease cargo transportation, lower logistics costs, and expand bilateral trade between the two South Asian neighbors.

Beyond maritime connectivity, both foreign ministers explored expanding cooperation in several key sectors, including expatriate welfare and labor migration, tourism, healthcare, education, and the blue economy. Both sides also noted ongoing efforts to plan official high-level visits to further deepen diplomatic and economic ties.

Foreign Minister Rahman reaffirmed his government's "Bangladesh First" foreign policy while underscoring the importance of building stronger people-to-people connections between the two nations.
