MALE : The Criminal Court has decided to deliver its verdict on the bribery and money laundering charges against former President Abdulla Yameen regarding the lease of R. Fuggiri on October 29.

Presiding Judge Ali Nadeem scheduled the verdict hearing for 9:00 AM on October 29 following the conclusion of closing statements from both the defense and prosecution. Yameen is currently the sole remaining defendant in the case after prosecutors withdrew or dropped charges against all other individuals and entities initially implicated in the transaction.

The charges stem from the unbid lease of R. Fuggiri through MMPRC to UAE-registered Classic City Island Holdings for $1.55 million. Leaked Pandora Papers documents later indicated that the offshore firm was backed by prominent Indian real estate developers and logistics businessmen.

  • Scheduled Verdict Date: October 29 at 9:00 AM.

  • Active Charges Against Yameen: Accepting a bribe and money laundering.

  • Withdrawn Prosecution Charges: Charges dropped against alleged mediator Ahmed Krik Riza.

  • Dismissed Corporate Cases: Unproven lower court money laundering charges against Sun Construction and Sun Investment (unappealed by PG Office), with no action taken against Classic City Island Holdings.

The scheduling of the Fuggiri verdict comes as the Criminal Court concurrently progresses with retrial proceedings in the separate V. Aarah lease case against Yameen. The High Court had quashed Yameen’s initial 11-year sentence in the Aarah case and ordered a retrial, where the court recently decided to allow defense witnesses and key prosecution testimonies ahead of its own upcoming conclusion.
