Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer meets with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia
Male’: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as false a report claiming that Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer was removed from his post after refusing to sign the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) membership form.
In a statement, the ministry said the appointment and dismissal of ambassadors are governed by procedures set out in the Maldives Foreign Service Act, with the authority to remove ambassadors resting with the President.
According to the ministry, Sareer held a political post at the Foreign Ministry at state minister level from January 3, 2024. He was later appointed as the Maldives’ ambassador to Saudi Arabia on October 30, 2024.
The ministry also highlighted that Foreign Service employees are prohibited from being members of political parties under the Foreign Service Code of Conduct.
It said the government does not force Foreign Service employees to sign up for political parties in violation of the law and urged the public not to circulate unverified information about the ministry and its staff.
