Texas: American actor RJ Mitte, who rose to fame as Walter White Jr. in the hit television drama Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34.
Mitte died in Brownsville, Texas, on Monday, October 12, according to reports by TMZ and other media outlets. His representatives confirmed his death in a statement but did not initially disclose the cause.
Mitte played Walter “Flynn” White Jr., the son of Walter White, portrayed by Bryan Cranston, throughout all five seasons of Breaking Bad, which aired from 2008 to 2013.
The actor had cerebral palsy, like the character he portrayed, and drew on his own experiences to bring authenticity to the role. His performance helped raise awareness of disability representation in television.
Beyond acting, Mitte was an advocate for people with disabilities. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and supported efforts to improve inclusion and representation in the entertainment industry.
His other credits included Switched at Birth, The Oak Room and The Guardians of Justice. He also appeared in the film Talking to Strangers, which was being promoted shortly before his death.
