Sri Lankan authorities have arrested two Maldivian nationals in connection with an alleged drug smuggling case after more than 1.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine was seized.

According to Sri Lankan Police, the suspects are Hassan Abdulla, 40, from N. Lhandhoo, and Mohamed Shafee bin Ahmed, 28, of H. Palmeira.
Sri Lankan media reported that Hassan was arrested on Wednesday night at Bandaranaike International Airport after arriving from the Maldives.
Police allege that officers recovered 602 grams of crystal methamphetamine ("Ice") concealed on his body. The arrest followed intelligence indicating that drugs were being smuggled into Sri Lanka by air from the Maldives.
During questioning, Hassan allegedly provided information that led investigators to a hotel in Colombo, where police arrested Shafee.
Authorities said they recovered a further 607 grams of
crystal methamphetamine from Shafee's hotel room, bringing the total quantity seized in the case to 1.209 kilograms.
The Negombo Magistrate's Court has ordered both suspects to be remanded in custody for 14 days while investigations continue.
The allegations against the two men have not been proven in court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
