MALE: Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and FENAKA Corporation Limited have officially signed a Framework Agreement to transfer water and sewerage services in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City to MWSC.
The formal signing took place between FENAKA Corporation Limited Managing Director Mohamed Afeef Hussain and MWSC Managing Director Hussain Fahmy.
The agreement establishes a structured outline to facilitate a coordinated and orderly transition of management responsibilities between the two state-owned utility enterprises.
According to an official update published by MWSC, the primary focus of the agreement is to safeguard continuous and reliable delivery of essential water and sewerage services for residents in Addu and Fuvahmulah during the operational handover.
The transfer aligns with broader government strategies to optimize municipal utility management and utilize MWSC’s technical infrastructure for large-scale municipal water systems across major southern populations.
The agreement comes amidst broader state enterprise reforms, following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent announcement that the government plans to dissolve FENAKA Corporation and merge its major utility operations into the State Electric Company (STELCO).
