Male’: Visit Maldives Corporation Chief Executive Officer Abdulla Yasir met with Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) Secretary General Sheikh Yousuf Hasan Khalawi to discuss expanding Halal tourism opportunities across the Maldives.
The meeting focused on implementing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to develop Halal tourism as a distinct segment within the nation’s broader hospitality framework.
Visit Maldives Corporation confirmed that initial assessments are underway to identify interested resorts and hotels willing to align services with Halal tourism standards.
Officials noted that preliminary work includes evaluating certification processes, specialized operational benchmarks, and necessary infrastructure required to deliver competitive Halal travel offerings.
Visit Maldives Corporation CEO Abdulla Yasir stated that the Maldives can leverage its global standing in luxury tourism to capture growing international demand for premium Halal travel experiences.
Yasir emphasized that establishing internationally recognized standards through stakeholder collaboration will protect destination reputation while expanding market reach.
Sheikh Khalawi shared expertise regarding major international Halal tourism events and explored hosting high level regional travel initiatives within the Maldives.
Both parties agreed that expanding specialized services for Muslim travelers will diversify the national tourism economy and strengthen strategic partnerships across target international markets.
