Iran — Two oil tankers caught fire after reportedly striking naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IRGC said the incidents involved two vessels, each carrying approximately two million barrels of crude oil. The tankers’ names, flags and ownership have not been disclosed.

Iranian state media reported that one tanker suffered an explosion followed by a severe fire, while the second vessel was engulfed in flames after hitting a mine.

The IRGC alleged that both vessels attempted to use a route not authorised by Iranian forces. It also claimed the ships had switched off their positioning and radar systems.

The reports come amid heightened tensions over control of the strategic waterway, a major route for global oil shipments. Iran has imposed restrictions on vessels seeking to transit the strait amid its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.

The claims about the tanker incidents have not been independently verified. Details about possible casualties and the extent of damage remain unclear.
