Riyadh — Saudi Arabia has executed five citizens convicted of terrorism-related offences, the country’s Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday.

According to the ministry, the convictions involved firing weapons and bombs at security personnel, security facilities and vehicles, possessing firearms and live ammunition, and providing financial and other support for terrorist operations.

The ministry said the five had also been convicted of joining a foreign organisation designated as terrorist. The organisation was not identified in the statement.

The authorities said the cases were investigated and referred to a competent court. The death sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court before a royal order was issued for their implementation, according to local media reports.

The executions took place in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province on October 17, according to the Ministry of Interior’s announcement as reported by Khaleej Times.
