Male’ — Two Maldivian pilots working for Flydubai have been released to their families after being questioned by police following their deportation from the United Arab Emirates.

According to MMTV, police spokesperson Ahmed Shiyam said the pilots were brought to police headquarters on Thursday night for questioning and released after the necessary inquiries.

The case is linked to a reported violent confrontation aboard a Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30.

Reports cited by Israeli officials and passengers alleged that the aircraft’s first officer attacked the captain with a knife while the plane was flying over Saudi Arabian airspace.

UAE authorities reportedly launched an investigation into the incident, with the Maldivian Embassy also holding discussions with UAE officials.

The precise roles of the two Maldivian pilots in the incident have not been clearly established in the information released by Maldivian police.
