Malé, Maldives: President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said all works on the Thilamalé Bridge are expected to be completed within 2027, with the Malé-Vilimalé section already connected.

Speaking on PSM’s “Nation Chat” programme Wednesday night, Muizzu said significant progress has been made on the project, although an exact completion date has not been determined.

He said the government expects the full project, connecting Malé, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi, to be completed within a year.

Project closely monitored

Muizzu said a high-level committee involving Maldives and India was formed to oversee the project, while the Infrastructure Ministry is closely monitoring construction.

The project was awarded to India’s Afcons in August 2021 and is funded through a US$400 million loan from India’s EXIM Bank.

The latest superstructure segment connecting Malé and Vilimalé was installed earlier this week, marking further progress on the project.
