STELCO urges caution during road and excavation works to prevent damage to underground electricity cables

Male’: STELCO has renewed its warning to those carrying out construction and excavation works after two recent incidents damaged high-voltage cables and disrupted electricity services.

Two incidents reported

STELCO said one of the incidents occurred on Monday in parts of Hulhumale’ Phase 1, where excavation work by a private party damaged a high-voltage cable.

The utility company said a similar incident was reported last Thursday, highlighting repeated risks to underground power infrastructure.

Warning to contractors

STELCO called on all parties involved in road and excavation works to plan their activities carefully and take responsibility for protecting electricity cables located beneath roads.

The company said damage to power infrastructure can interrupt electricity services and cause significant inconvenience to the public.

STELCO urged contractors to exercise greater caution and ensure underground cables are not damaged during construction and road works.
