Sri Lanka has welcomed nearly 1.5 million international tourists this year, with India, the UK and China leading the country’s key source markets.

Sri Lanka recorded 155,331 tourist arrivals during the first 23 days of August, bringing the country’s total international tourist arrivals to 1,498,749 between January 1 and August 23, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
India remained Sri Lanka’s largest source market during August, with 36,590 visitors accounting for about 24 percent of arrivals during the period.
The United Kingdom ranked second with 16,688 arrivals, followed by China with 10,294 tourists.
India also remained the top source market for the year, recording 374,820 arrivals through August 23.
The UK was the second-largest market with 147,089 visitors, while China ranked third with 98,801 arrivals.
The latest figures show continued strong tourist traffic to Sri Lanka, with India, the UK and China maintaining their positions as the country’s leading international tourism markets.
