Heavy rains have triggered floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, killing at least seven people and forcing thousands to evacuate. Rescue operations are ongoing in the worst-hit central regions.

Sri Lanka: At least seven people have died and thousands have been displaced after heavy rainfall caused floods and landslides in several parts of Sri Lanka, officials said.
The worst affected areas are in the country’s central mountainous region, where mudslides buried houses, damaged roads and disrupted daily life. Five people were killed after landslides struck two homes, while two others died due to flooding.
Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center said hundreds of houses have been damaged and nearly 3,500 people have been evacuated from affected areas. Several others were injured.
The Sri Lankan Navy and Army have been deployed to assist rescue operations, with teams helping residents trapped by rising floodwaters and blocked roads.
The disaster comes as the country continues recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwa, which caused widespread destruction and killed hundreds of people last year.
