At least nine people were killed and dozens wounded in overnight Russian strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian authorities said.

At least nine people were killed and 34 wounded after Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, damaging residential buildings and other facilities, Ukrainian authorities said Thursday.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said missile strikes hit residential areas and warehouses in the capital. City authorities reported eight deaths and 33 injuries, with a medical facility and educational institution also damaged.
In the wider Kyiv region, one person was killed and another injured in an attack on the Brovary district, according to regional governor Tymur Tkachenko. An industrial facility was also damaged and caught fire.
Ukraine’s air force reported Russian Kalibr cruise missiles moving towards Kyiv. Poland responded by deploying aircraft and activating air defences to protect its airspace near the Ukrainian border.
Romania also scrambled two Spanish fighter jets after radar systems detected aerial targets near its border with Ukraine. Romanian authorities said a drone entered the country’s airspace before crashing in an unpopulated area.
Russia also reported a large Ukrainian drone attack, with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin saying 250 drones targeted the Moscow region overnight. He said most were destroyed before reaching the capital.
The latest strikes come as both sides continue long-range attacks after nearly four and a half years of war, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy faces a renewed corruption scandal involving officials in his administration.
