President Muizzu pledges stronger Maldives-China ties as Friendship Bridge marks eight years

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to its partnership with China as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge marked eight years since its opening.

MALE ‘: President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to further strengthen the Maldives  partnership with China, describing the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge as a symbol of the close ties between the two countries.

Marking the eighth anniversary of the bridge’s opening, President Muizzu said the project represents the trust, solidarity and shared aspirations that connect the Maldives and China.

Also he said the partnership between the two countries continues to expand under the leadership of  President Xi Jinping, creating new opportunities for the people of both nations.

He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to nurturing the friendship with China and building a stronger partnership in the years ahead.

The China -Maldives Friendship Bridge was inaugurated on August 30, 2018, connecting Male’ with Hulhulé, where Velana International Airport is located, and Hulhumalé.

The bridge has since become an important transport link for residents travelling between the capital, the airport and Hulhumalé.
