Male’: Police have seized a quantity of vape cartridges, Nano Sticks and cash during an intelligence-led operation in Hulhumale’ Phase Two linked to the alleged illegal import and sale of vape products.

Police said two Maldivian men were stopped and questioned during the operation, while their motorcycle was also searched.

Apartment search in Hulhumale’

A search of an apartment in Hulhumale’ Phase Two allegedly linked to the men led to the discovery of 156 vape cartridges and Nano Sticks, police said.

More than MVR 6,000 believed to be proceeds from illegal activity was also found during the search.

Police said the investigation is continuing, but no details have been released on action taken against the suspects.

Vaping was banned in the Maldives in late 2024, with the import of vape products prohibited from November 15 and their use, possession and sale prohibited from December 15.

Despite the ban, authorities have continued to seize vape products in enforcement operations. More than 15,000 cartridges were seized in June, while Customs confiscated 800 cartridges in August and 230 cartridges linked to suspected drugs earlier this month.

Confiscated vape products are required to be destroyed by relevant authorities under existing regulations.
