Male’: Nine new measles cases were reported in the Male’ area last week, according to the latest figures released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The latest cases bring the number of measles patients recorded across the Maldives this year to 252.
Following the detection of measles cases in the Maldives since May, health authorities launched a nationwide MR vaccination program as a precautionary measure.
A total of 16,216 people have received the measles and rubella vaccine so far.
Measles is caused by the measles virus and can cause symptoms including high fever, runny nose, coughing, sore throat, tiredness, body aches and loss of appetite.
Health authorities advise people to seek medical attention promptly if a rash appears on the body along with a fever.
