A 24-year-old Nepalese man has been remanded for five days over allegations that he assaulted a foreign woman and attempted to rob her in R. Maduvvari.

R. Maduvvari, Maldives: A 24-year-old Nepalese man has been remanded in custody for five days over an alleged attempt to rob a foreign woman in R. Maduvvari.
The man was arrested under a court order after allegedly knocking the woman to the ground and attempting to steal from her.
A video showing the incident was circulated on social media. Police said another Maldivian who was in the area intervened and helped the woman escape.
The suspect was brought before court to determine his detention period, following his arrest last Saturday.
The court subsequently ordered him to remain in custody for five days while the case is investigated.
