Male’: President Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the government’s commitment to modernising the Maldives’ tourism sector through digital technology and skills development, while protecting the country’s natural environment and distinctive hospitality.

President Muizzu made the remarks in a message marking World Tourism Day 2026, observed under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”

He noted that artificial intelligence and other digital technologies are changing how tourists discover destinations, organise trips and experience holidays, creating new opportunities for tourism businesses to improve services and reach visitors.

The President stressed that the Maldives must invest in digital capabilities and workforce skills to remain competitive as the global tourism industry continues to evolve.

Keeping the Maldivian touch

While promoting innovation, President Muizzu said technology should support rather than replace the personal service and hospitality that distinguish the Maldives as a tourism destination.

He also thanked tourism workers and industry stakeholders for their contribution to developing the sector, noting its importance to national development and communities across the country.

President Muizzu separately shared a World Tourism Day message on X, reiterating the Maldives’ aim of using digital opportunities to strengthen a resilient, sustainable and future-ready tourism
