MALÉ: State carrier Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has declared a formal force majeure notice following operational delays caused by ongoing vessel congestion at Malé Port.
In an official customer advisory released yesterday, the national shipping line stated that heavy port congestion has slowed down vessel unloading operations. The company noted that the operational bottleneck may directly impact vessel turnaround times, published sailing schedules, and transshipment connections through Colombo without prior warning.
MSS further highlighted that wider geopolitical factors affecting global shipping lanes are placing additional pressure on international maritime logistics. As a result, all freight rates, surcharges, vessel schedules, and cargo bookings remain subject to unannounced changes.
Under the declared conditions, the shipping line reserves the right to revise freight charges, suspend or cancel bookings, alter vessel routes, and apply necessary operational adjustments to manage port disruptions and constraints. The company confirmed that neither MSS nor its agents will bear liability for direct or indirect losses caused by cargo delays.
The company stated it is continuously monitoring port conditions and implementing operational steps to clear backlogs and move goods at the earliest opportunity.
