MALE : The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) officially launched a dedicated digital portal named the Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS) today to streamline tourist data sharing for tax and tourism compliance.
Minister of Finance Hassan Zareer inaugurated the new system during a special ceremony held today.
According to MIRA, the MGIS portal allows all taxpayers registered for Green Tax to submit required tourist information efficiently, eliminating the need for separate data submissions to the Ministry of Tourism. Furthermore, connecting existing guest management systems at tourist facilities to the new portal will completely remove manual data entry tasks.
Under the implementation schedule, resorts, hotels, and guesthouses with more than 50 beds must begin reporting through the MGIS portal starting next month. All other entities registered for Green Tax will be required to submit their tourist data via the system starting in January next year.
In a related regulatory measure following recent amendments to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, MIRA instructed all TGST-paying businesses, including resorts, guesthouses, and travel agencies, to report details of foreign booking platforms and offshore agencies selling Maldivian resort rooms through its online submission portal.
The new tax portal comes as the government enhances digital monitoring across sectors, alongside new Maldives Immigration regulations taking effect on October 30 that require aircraft operators to submit advance passenger data before international flights.
