Male’: Minister of Islamic Affairs and Awqaf Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said Umrah pilgrims currently in Makkah are safe, following recent security alerts concerning possible attacks on parts of Saudi Arabia.

The minister made the remarks after warnings were issued over potential attacks targeting Makkah, Jeddah and Taif amid ongoing attacks directed at Saudi Arabia.

Security measures lifted

Shaheem said the alerts have since been withdrawn and there is currently no threat affecting Umrah pilgrims in Makkah.

He also said Saudi Arabia’s civil defence authorities have confirmed that the temporary security measures introduced in the affected areas have now ended.

Attacks from Houthis

The warnings followed ballistic missile and drone attacks launched from Houthis, in which 13 people were reportedly injured in Saudi Arabia’s southern regions.

The continued attacks from Houthis have raised concerns over the security of key areas and infrastructure used by Umrah pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.

The developments come as countries across the Middle East continue efforts to maintain security and pursue peace amid the ongoing regional conflict.
