Malé: Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey), former Managing Director of the Maldives Sports Corporation, has been appointed as a Consultant to the Ministry of Sports.
According to the Ministry, Mauroof will advise Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu on key reforms, particularly the ongoing efforts to decentralize sports associations across the Maldives.
Speaking on his new role, Mauroof highlighted that decentralization is a core component of the national 20-year Master Plan for sports. He described the initiative as both strategically important and academically driven.
Mauroof holds a Master’s degree in Sports Management from the Johan Cruyff Institute in Barcelona, along with a Master’s degree in Sports Marketing. He said he accepted the consultancy role to contribute to what he described as a “very significant endeavor” for the country’s sports sector.
A prominent figure in Maldivian football, Mauroof is widely regarded as
one of the most successful coaches in the country’s history. A former national team goalkeeper, he rose to prominence after leading Victory Sports Club to multiple domestic titles.
He currently holds the record as the most successful coach in Maldivian football, with 13 major trophies. Mauroof has also previously served as Technical Director of the Football Association of Maldives and as Chairman of the FAM Awards Committee.
