More than 20 actors linked to Marvel productions have joined an international campaign calling for the release of imprisoned Palestinian politician Marwan Barghouti.

More than 20 actors associated with Marvel films and television series have joined the “Free Marwan Now” campaign calling for the release of Palestinian politician Marwan Barghouti, who has been imprisoned by Israel for more than two decades.
The campaign, launched by Barghouti’s family and supporters, has attracted more than 200 figures from film, music, literature and other cultural fields.
Its organizers have expressed concern over Barghouti’s continued imprisonment, alleged mistreatment and denial of legal rights, and called on the United Nations and governments worldwide to seek his release.
Among the signatories are Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton and Ian McKellen.
Other actors on the list include Brian Cox, Riz Ahmed, Elliot Page, Hugo Weaving, Dan Stevens, Daniel Brühl and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
Barghouti, a senior Fatah figure, was arrested by Israel in 2002 during the Second Intifada.
He was convicted by an Israeli court in 2004 over attacks that killed five people and sentenced to five life terms plus an additional 40 years.
The campaign says Barghouti has been held in solitary confinement since 2023 and has faced violent mistreatment and restrictions on his legal rights.
The campaign’s statement calls for international pressure to secure his release from Israeli prison.
