Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in Maafushi after discovering 42 bottles of alcohol at his residence during a court-authorised search.

MAAFUSHI, Kaafu Atoll — A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of alcohol trafficking in Maafushi, with police recovering 42 bottles of alcohol from his residence.
Police identified the suspect as Nabeehu Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. He was arrested on Friday in a joint operation conducted by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit and Maafushi Police.
According to police, officers searched the house where the suspect was living in Maafushi under a court order. The search led to the discovery of 42 bottles of alcohol.
Police suspect the man of engaging in alcohol-related trade in several areas of Maafushi.
Following his arrest, the suspect was brought before court for a decision on his detention. The court ordered him to remain in custody for eight days, police said.
Police said the case remains under investigation as authorities continue to look into the alleged alcohol trade.
