A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle prohibited items into Maafushi Prison.
Police stated that the individual was arrested yesterday near the gate of K. Maafushi Prison. The suspect has been identified as Mohamed Shaheer (28), of Maas, R. Maduvvari. He is accused of attempting to smuggle items prohibited in detention centers into Maafushi Prison.
According to the police, a search conducted upon his arrest led to the discovery of 17 smartphones, 35 charging cables, 29 joints (suspected drugs), an adapter,
four scales, a pen drive, and various other items.
Following his arrest, he was produced before the court today to determine his remand status, where he was ordered to be detained for 15 days.
Police confirmed that the case is under further investigation.
