Maldivian Hafiza Fathimath Shaya Zahir has secured fourth place in the entire Quran memorisation category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition in Makkah.

Al-Hafiza Fathimath Shaya Zahir secured fourth place for the Maldives in the entire Quran memorisation category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorizing, Reciting and Interpreting the Holy Quran, held in Makkah.
Shaya will receive SAR 170,000 for her achievement.
Her fourth-place finish came during a landmark edition of the competition, which brought together participants from 133 countries.
The 46th edition also marked the first time female contestants were allowed to compete in the competition’s 46-year history.
The results were announced during a special ceremony at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Wednesday night.
Deputy Governor of Makkah Region Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz presided over the ceremony.
Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Sheikh Dr Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh and Grand Mosque Imam Sheikh Dr Abdulrahman Al-Sudais also attended.
Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed attended the ceremony as a special guest and described Shaya’s achievement as an honour for the Maldives.
Following the ceremony, Sheikh Dr Abdullatif personally met Shaya and her guardians to congratulate her and encourage her following the achievement.
