Maldives records 1.4 million tourist arrivals despite 3.8% decline

The Maldives has welcomed 1,405,082 tourists so far this year, marking a 3.8 percent decline from the 1,460,747 arrivals recorded during the same period last year, according to Tourism Ministry statistics.

The latest figures show an average of 6,005 tourist arrivals per day this year.

China remains the Maldives’ leading source market, accounting for 18.6 percent of total arrivals, followed by Russia.

Leading Source Markets

China tops the list with 256,983 visitors, while Russia ranks second with 202,496 arrivals.

The United Kingdom recorded 107,637 arrivals, followed by Italy with 90,280 and Germany with 84,373 visitors.

Despite the overall decline in arrivals, the Maldives continues to receive a significant share of tourists through its traditional resort tourism sector.

Resorts Remain Main Choice

Resorts accommodated the largest number of visitors, with 1,011,977 tourists staying at resort properties.

Guesthouses accounted for 305,846 visitors, while 32,495 tourists stayed at hotels. A further 25,730 visitors stayed at safari vessels.

The Maldives currently has 1,321 tourist accommodation establishments with a combined bed capacity of 68,494, according to Tourism Ministry data.
