Health authorities have recorded 13 new cases of measles in the Greater Malé area over the past week, bringing the total number of confirmed infections nationwide to 199 this year.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the latest epidemiological figures in a public health update on social media.
According to state health officials, all 13 newly detected infections were identified within the capital region.
Health authorities continue to carry out contact tracing, targeted testing, and ring vaccination efforts across affected areas. Officials emphasize that completing the two-dose measles-rubella (MR) vaccine remains the most effective defense against the highly contagious airborne virus.
The HPA advises members of the public to monitor for common symptoms—including high fever, coughing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rashes—and to seek immediate medical consultation at local health centers if symptoms develop.
