Ministry of foreign affairs --

The Government of the Maldives has strongly condemned attempted drone attacks targeting oil facilities in the Eastern Province and the capital city of Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldivian government described the hostile drone strikes as a blatant violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry emphasized that such targeted attacks against critical economic infrastructure and urban centers pose a severe threat to regional peace, security, and overall stability.

"The Maldives considers these attacks a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a serious threat to regional peace, security and stability," the Foreign Ministry stated.

Reaffirming its long-standing foreign policy stance, the Maldivian government expressed steadfast solidarity with the Saudi government and its brotherly people. The Maldives further backed all defensive and security measures undertaken by Saudi authorities to protect the Kingdom's sovereignty, national security, and territorial borders.

Context: Maldives’ Stance Amid Middle East Tensions

The foreign ministry's statement comes amid heightened volatility and widespread conflict across the Middle East. Cross-border drone and missile attacks

targeting energy infrastructure and commercial centers have repeatedly threatened global supply chains and regional stability.

The Maldives has consistently maintained a principled stance on Middle Eastern affairs, advocating for total respect for national sovereignty, non-aggression, and international law. Historically aligned with Saudi Arabia and brotherly Islamic nations, the island republic has routinely denounced acts of terrorism, armed aggression, and non-state military escalations in the Gulf region.

At the same time, the Maldivian government continues to call for immediate de-escalation, diplomatic dialogue, and peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts to ensure long-term stability in the Middle East.
