RAS TANURA, Saudi Arabia: Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile attack targeting Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura oil complex, a major centre for crude oil processing and exports on the kingdom’s eastern coast.

The group’s military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, claimed the attack caused a fire at the facility. However, a direct hit on the refinery has not been independently confirmed. The complex is strategically important to Saudi Arabia’s energy industry, with the refinery capable of processing approximately 550,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Saudi air defences also intercepted two ballistic missiles launched towards Riyadh, according to reports. Falling debris reportedly damaged a building, a construction site and a vehicle in the capital, although no casualties were reported in those incidents.

The developments have heightened concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure and the potential impact on international oil supplies. Any disruption to major processing or export facilities could affect global markets, although the extent of any operational impact from the reported attack remains unclear.

The latest incident comes amid escalating regional hostilities and ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict. The Houthi claims regarding the refinery and other alleged targets have not all been independently verified, and further confirmation from Saudi authorities is needed.
