GENEVA, Switzerland: Israel has continued committing genocidal acts in the Gaza Strip despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect in October 2025, according to a report published on Monday by a United Nations-mandated commission of inquiry.

The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel said Israeli authorities had continued acts with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, Palestinians in Gaza.

The report examined alleged violations against Palestinian children from the beginning of the war in October 2023 through September 2026. It said the situation in Gaza remained critical despite the ceasefire, with military attacks continuing in densely populated areas.

According to the commission, Israeli forces continued using heavy munitions, drones, artillery and sniper fire during the ceasefire period. The report also raised concerns about Israel’s expanding territorial control in Gaza and the growing significance of the so-called Yellow Line separating areas under different levels of military control.

Palestinian casualties continue after ceasefire

The Associated Press reported that the commission documented at least 196 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began in October 2025, including women and children.

The commission said Israeli control had expanded from approximately 53 per cent of Gaza to at least 60 per cent during the ceasefire period, further restricting the area available to Palestinians.

The ceasefire followed two years of devastating conflict that began after the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023. Israel’s subsequent military campaign has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry figures cited in the report.

Israel rejects UN findings

The commission also accused Israeli forces and prison guards of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied West Bank, including torture and sexual violence against Palestinian detainees.

Israel rejected the latest findings, describing the report as part of a misinformation campaign intended to undermine the country’s legitimacy and its right to defend itself. Israeli authorities have repeatedly denied accusations of genocide.

The commission’s findings add to international scrutiny of Israel’s conduct in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The report calls attention to the continued impact of military operations on Palestinian civilians despite the ceasefire agreement.
