Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended operations at Najran Airport on Tuesday after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a drone attack targeting the facility.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had struck a “sensitive target” at the airport in response to what it described as Saudi drone operations over Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah governorates.
A regional source said the airport’s main radar was hit, disrupting operations, while the status of scheduled flights remained uncertain. Saudi authorities have not officially commented on the reported attack.
The incident comes amid renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis following the collapse of a 2022 truce. The Houthis have recently declared a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia and claimed several attacks on oil tankers and infrastructure, while Saudi forces have responded with strikes on Houthi positions.
