The Gemanafushi Magistrate Court has published an announcement seeking information on a man who went missing at sea over 40 years ago to process his family’s inheritance request.
The Gemanafushi Magistrate Court has issued a public notice seeking to confirm whether Hassan Mohamed, who disappeared at sea in the early 1980s, is alive or deceased.
The legal announcement was initiated after his heirs applied to declare his death so they could legally claim and transfer his shares in the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

Original Island: GA. Dhiyadoo (Thandirammage).

According to local officials, Hassan Mohamed was aboard a newly constructed engine-less boat being towed to Malé to install an engine when severe monsoon weather struck the vessel in the Huvadhu Sea.
Rough seas caused the vessel to disappear, claiming the lives of around 20 residents from Dhiyadoo during the journey.
GA. Dhiyadoo was an island with a small population that was depopulated following the 2004 Tsunami under former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
