More than 73,400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, while continued Israeli strikes have claimed more lives despite a ceasefire reached last year.

More than 73,400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the war began in October 2023, according to Gaza health authorities, with casualties continuing despite the ceasefire that came into effect in October 2025.
The latest reported figures include deaths from Israeli attacks as well as Palestinians who died from injuries sustained during the conflict. Gaza’s Health Ministry has continued updating the toll as additional victims are identified.
Israeli airstrikes continued in Gaza this week, with Palestinian health officials reporting further deaths and injuries. On August 23, at least two Palestinians, including a four-year-old boy, were killed and seven others injured in separate Israeli strikes, according to Reuters.
Reuters reported that more than 1,280 Palestinians had been killed since the October 2025 ceasefire, alongside four Israeli soldiers, highlighting the continuing violence despite the truce.
Israel has said some of its strikes target Hamas fighters and infrastructure, while Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire.
The United Nations continues to report severe humanitarian needs across Gaza, with restrictions on access, insecurity and shortages of funding affecting humanitarian operations.
The Gaza death toll remains a subject of international scrutiny, but the Gaza Health Ministry’s figures are widely used by the UN and international news organisations when reporting casualties.
