Male’: Former President and MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed attended the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) congress as a guest on Monday, receiving a welcome from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The PNC’s top council meeting, or congress, began today and is being attended by party council leaders, women’s committee leaders and delegates from across the country.
The congress is scheduled to continue until Friday, with leaders of several political parties invited to the formal gathering held tonight.
MDP leaders, along with leaders of the Maldives National Party (MNP) and Adhaalath Party, were among those attending the event.
However, Nasheed’s attendance is notable as he is the first former president to attend a PNC congress.
President Muizzu welcomed Nasheed and greeted him when he arrived at the gathering.
Nasheed previously attended the ceremony held for former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s inauguration after Nasheed’s presidency.
