Parliament unanimously approved the appointment of veteran diplomat Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldivian Ambassador to the UK, filling a key diplomatic position vacant since April.

MALÉ: The People’s Majlis has unanimously approved the appointment of Jameela Ali Khalid as the new Maldivian Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
During Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting, all 56 lawmakers present voted in favor of endorsing her nomination to the diplomatic post.
Jameela currently serves as an Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and brings a wide range of experience from public service and foreign diplomacy.
Her career background includes key public and diplomatic roles:
Germany Posting: Served as the first resident Maldivian Ambassador to Germany from 2017 to 2019.
Public Service: Previously held the post of Vice President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Current Service: Works as an Ambassador-at-Large at the Foreign Ministry.
The position of top envoy to the UK became vacant after former Ambassador Iruthisham Adam was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in April.
