India: Health authorities in India have increased monitoring for the Chandipura virus after cases and deaths were reported, mainly affecting children in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Gujarat has reported confirmed cases of Chandipura virus, with health officials carrying out increased testing, surveillance and awareness activities. Authorities have also intensified mosquito and insect control measures in affected areas.
Rajasthan has stepped up health surveillance, especially near its border with Gujarat, after Chandipura-related deaths were reported. Health teams are conducting screenings and monitoring suspected cases to prevent further spread.
Chandipura virus is a rare infection that can cause acute encephalitis syndrome (brain inflammation), particularly in children. Health officials have urged parents to seek immediate medical attention if children develop high fever, seizures, vomiting or unusual behaviour.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have advised the public to take precautions against insect bites, as the virus is mainly spread through sandflies.
