The Anti-Corruption Commission and State Electric Company Limited have signed an agreement to enhance integrity, conduct joint training, and streamline administrative assistance in corruption investigations.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state utility provider State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) to combat corruption and promote organizational integrity.
The agreement was signed by ACC President Adam Shamil and STELCO Managing Director Dr. Ali Azwar.
The primary aim of the MoU is to identify joint preventative actions and strengthen good governance across state enterprise operations. Under the agreement, STELCO will incorporate recommendations from the ACC when drafting internal policies to minimize corruption risks.
Additionally, both institutions will grant staff access to shared training programs designed to enhance institutional transparency.
STELCO is the state-owned enterprise responsible for primary electricity distribution across Malé and several outer islands. State-owned entities in the country have historically faced public scrutiny regarding administrative practices, including concerns over political hiring and resource allocation. Officials expect the joint initiative to improve oversight and rebuild public trust in state company operations.
