Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan has been directed to leave India by October 28 after participating in a protest in Mumbai against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to Indian media reports.

The notice was issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after Khan took part in a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan on October 10. The protest called for Kumar’s resignation.

Khan, who is a US citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, was reportedly detained during the demonstration and later released. Authorities have alleged that his participation in the protest violated rules applicable to foreign nationals.

The action reportedly followed a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who sought action against the actor over his participation in the protest. Reports said the matter was referred for investigation under regulations governing foreign nationals.

Khan has been given until October 28 to leave India. Further details about any response from the actor or his representatives were not available in the reports reviewed.
