India: Voting is underway in six constituencies in India as by-elections are held across Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry.
The polls cover five Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat. Voting began at 7am on Tuesday.
In West Bengal, voters are choosing representatives in Nandigram and Rejinagar. Tamil Nadu is holding polls in Madurantakam and Dharapuram.
Puducherry’s Thattanchavady Assembly seat is also being contested. In Assam, voters are choosing a new MP for Nagaon.
The by-elections are being held after several seats became vacant following resignations by sitting lawmakers.
Counting of votes will take place on October 9, according to the Election Commission of India.
