Male’: Police received 41 scam reports between September 27 and October 3, with victims losing MVR386,611.
A total of MVR381,503 was recovered during the week.
Financial scams made up the largest group, with 16 cases. Police also recorded 14 e-commerce scams and five investment scams.
The reported scams involved messaging apps, TikTok, phone calls, phishing links and Facebook Marketplace.
The Anti-Scam Centre warned that scammers are now using artificial intelligence and deepfake content.
Police advised people not to open suspicious links or share OTPs and other private information.
