Police have warned of a rise in cyberattacks targeting government institutions through fake emails containing harmful links and files

Male’: Police have warned that cyberattacks targeting government institutions and organisations have increased, with fake emails being used to compromise systems.

The emails are designed to look like genuine messages from trusted organisations or known contacts.

They may contain harmful links or files disguised as official documents, invitations or file-sharing links. Opening them could expose usernames, passwords and other sensitive information.

Police issue safety advice

The Cyber Security Operations Centre is monitoring the activity and investigating the attacks. Authorities are also working with government institutions to block unsafe websites and networks.

Police advised people not to open suspicious links or attachments. Unusual requests should be confirmed directly with the sender.

Users should avoid entering passwords on pages opened through email links. Police also recommended using multi-factor authentication and keeping software updated.

Anyone who receives a suspicious email should report it to their IT or security team. If a suspicious link or file is opened, the device should be disconnected from the network and checked by IT staff.
