MALE : Senior government officials have met with top tourism industry leaders for a special discussion aimed at growing the tourism sector and solving key challenges facing the industry.

The high-level meeting included four cabinet ministers:

  • Mohamed Ameen: Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation
  • Mohamed Saeed: Minister of Economic Development and Trade
  • Hassan Zareer: Minister of Finance
  • Ahmed Usham: Attorney General

The Ministry of Tourism said the main goals of the discussion were to boost tourist arrivals, achieve tourism targets set for 2027, and address current difficulties in the sector. Government officials and industry executives set several important targets during the meeting, with the government reaffirming its commitment to working closely with tourism stakeholders.

The consultation comes shortly after Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen announced that the government will address concerns raised over a 17 percent Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) requirement. The tax measure applies to foreign travel agents, tour operators, and offshore booking platforms.

While exact details of the upcoming changes are yet to be disclosed, the government is considering delaying the implementation of the tax amendment until April 2027.
