Male’: Inspector of Police Ahmed Shiyam has been appointed as the official spokesperson of the Maldives Police Service, effective today.
Police said Shiyam will take over the role from Superintendent of Police Arif, who previously served as the spokesperson.
Shiyam previously served as the police spokesperson before leaving the service in 2014.
He was dismissed after disciplinary action was taken over alleged violations of laws and regulations while serving as commander of the North Central Police Division.
Shiyam challenged the dismissal in court. The High Court later ordered his reinstatement and directed the state to pay his salary and benefits for the period he was out of service.
Police reinstated him last month in line with the court order. The state has appealed the compensation part of the ruling at the Supreme Court.
